Building Performance Review

Project Highlight

Northern Arizona University Science & Health Building

Commissioning Concepts performed commissioning of the HVAC, Control, Plumbing, Fire Protection, Fire Alarm, Electrical, Lighting Controls and Building Enclosure for this new science and health building. This facility is 118,000 square feet and houses classrooms, research labs, teaching labs and lecture halls.

This project has achieved LEED Gold Certification. As a part of our enclosure commissioning, we performed whole building pressure testing and tested each lab space to verity the actual leakage rates.

Our September issue will be highlighting Laboratory Testing.

Whole Building Pressure Testing

As part of our services as a full service technical commissioning firm, Commissioning Concepts provides certified building pressure testing, which includes whole building pressure tests, water intrusion tests and thermal intrusion tests. This process can be applied to the whole building or a space within a building to confirm the actual leakage rate.

Performing a pressure test on the whole building detects the actual leakage rate which allows improved sealing that will lower the total energy usage of the building.

Performing pressure testing on individual spaces like labs, allows us to verify the actual lab leakage rate allowing us to adjust the exhaust and makeup air offset to provide the correct lab negative pressure. This is critical to the correct operation of the lab.
